68. Segundo Domingo después de Epifanía. I.

Señor Jesús, ven a nosotros y mora con nosotros. Santifica nuestro hogar y haz que estemos unidos de corazón. Amén.

Juan 2:1-11. Al tercer día se celebró una boda en Caná de Galilea, y estaba allí la madre de Jesús. Fue invitado también Jesús con sus discípulos a la boda. Y como faltó el vino, la madre de Jesús le dijo: --No tienen vino. Jesús le dijo: --¿Qué tiene que ver eso conmigo y contigo, mujer? Todavía no ha llegado mi hora. Su madre dijo a los que servían: --Haced todo lo que él os diga. Había allí seis tinajas de piedra para agua, de acuerdo con los ritos de los judíos para la purificación. En cada una de ellas cabían dos o tres medidas. Jesús les dijo: --Llenad de agua las tinajas. Y las llenaron hasta el borde. Luego les dijo: --Sacad ahora y llevadlo al encargado del banquete. Se lo llevaron; y cuando el encargado del banquete probó el agua ya hecha vino, y no sabía de dónde venía (aunque los sirvientes que habían sacado el agua sí lo sabían), Llamó al novio y le dijo: --Todo hombre sirve primero el buen vino; y cuando ya han tomado bastante, entonces saca el inferior. Pero tú has guardado el buen vino hasta ahora. Este principio de señales hizo Jesús en Caná de Galilea, y manifestó su gloria; y sus discípulos creyeron en él.

Brothers and sisters in Christ: Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, has been born and we are celebrating. We celebrate the truth that the Word became flesh and was born in Bethlehem. He grew up under the law and gave himself over to death for us. With his blood he rescued us from evil and purified for himself a chosen people. This is the greatest of all gifts of all times for all people. This is the grace that God, through his incarnate Son, has given us. This is life that is really life – abundant and eternal. Merry Christmas to all of you and may this truth enlighten you and make happy in the days that you spend now with your family and friends.

Lord, keep us alive by your word. Amen.

The books Left Behind say that Christians will disappear suddenly when Christ returns, and that unbelievers will be left behind. But, what does the Bible say?

Planes dropping out of the sky. Chaos on the roads. Newborns vanishing amid delivery. Missing corpses.

These are the amazing scenes in the opening pages of Left Behind, the first in a series of novels about what will supposedly happen at the end of the world. This series of novels has earned for their creator and author -- Timothy LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins some $20 million in royalties. What is perhaps more fantastic than the plots of the books themselves is the fact that millions of Americans actually believe that the scenario described in Left Behind is Scriptural. The website for the Left Behind book series http://www.leftbehind.com/ claims that Left Behind has become "the all-time best-selling Christian fiction series.” As refreshing as the popularity of a religious -- even Christian -- book may seem, Christians should, nevertheless, "test everything" (1 Thess. 5:21). The question, then, is: How much of the Left Behind series is truly Biblical? And how much is simply fiction? We must always remember, as the old hymn tells us, that the Lord God is our guide and that he guides us through his Word.

Why is it that some writings, and not others, became part of the New Testament canon?

“The Bible did not arrive from heaven by facsimile!.”

That statement by the fictitious “canon expert” Leigh Teabing in The DaVinci Code, is meant to startle and shock us. But should it?

Actually, the author, Dan Brown, got at least this one thing right. It may seem that the Bibles we have grown to love through constant use have always looked the same. Yes, there are many translations, but no matter the version or publisher, the same 66 books always appear in the same sequence. But it may be surprising to many to learn that this familiar form of the Bible did not exist until 1804.
